Country music is a genre steeped in tradition, and the Golden Boot Awards nominees for the Living Legend Award 2019 are the holders of that tradition. The lyrics of Loretta Lynn changed the way country songs told stories, Ricky Skaggs keeps the tradition of bluegrass music alive and Clint Black has been delighted by country fans for over 30 years.

Both Dolly Parton and John Prine still release excellent new music and Shania Twain continues to impress us with her busy tour schedule. Although Kenny Rogers has stopped touring, his influence on the genre is long-lasting, just like that of John Hiatt. Dozens of artists at home and abroad have covered his songs.

Garth Brooks continues to sell world trips, the talent and fiery energy of Reba McEntire continues to inspire and the influence of Vince Gill has thrived the tradition of string music. The violin by Charlie Daniels and the lyrics by Kris Kristofferson also draw crowds across the country.

The Oak Ridge Boys keep the collaborations going and open their influence every year to a larger audience, and in 2019 Steve Earle released an excellent record of tribute to late-county songwriter Guy Clark. More than two and a half decades since “Chattahoochee”, Alan Jackson is still doing his own thing, much to the delight of fans.

Willie Nelson also continues to play excellent live shows, despite some recent health problems, and Randy Travis is planning new live shows, his first since his debilitating battle in 2013. George Strait is not for nothing known as the “King of Country”, Ronnie Milsap is still a from the greatest crossover singers of all time and Jim Lauderdale remains one of the most productive singer-songwriters in the country.
