Super League leaders Tralee Warriors face points deduction

A nightmare week for Garvey’s Tralee Warriors can get worse in the midst of suggestions that they might miss three Super League wins before placing an illegal player.

Basketball Ireland Men’s National Competitions Commission has found that Warriors American Andre Berry, who replaced fellow countryman Keith Jumper, was not correctly registered for three Super League games.

If this is confirmed, this means a deduction of six points for the Super League leaders who would stir the table.

Warriors are currently at the top of the table with Belfast Star, but a point deduction would mean a huge blow to Tralee, whose Cup-hope went up in flames against DBS Eanna last weekend.

The club is likely to appeal against the Basketball Ireland recommendation.

Warriors will desperately want to bounce back from that National Cup shock when they host DCU Saints in the Super League tomorrow night (Castleisland of St. Mary, 7.30 p.m.).
