Prominent businessman killed after crashing into school bus

A prominent local businessman was killed after crashing into a school bus.

Michael James Scott, the founder of Mike Scott Plumbing, drove a Ford F-150 pickup in Hernando County at 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday when he didn’t stop and crashed into the school bus with 48 students after an accident crashed from the Florida accident report Highway Patrol.

The 67-year-old suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

Six students suffered minor injuries and were treated in local hospitals, according to the FHP. The students were on their way to the Winding Waters K-8 school in Weeki Wachee.

Scott founded Mike Scott Plumbing in 1987. The company included the counties Sumter, Marion, Citrus and Alachua.

The Marine Corps veteran was known as a generous supporter of numerous organizations, including the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce.

Scott and his wife Pat brought their three children – Tracy, Shawn and Jason – to the plumbing company.
