The Premier League is the most popular competition in China, according to a report that ranks the online performance of European clubs in the country.
The annual Red Card report, which is in the ninth year of publication, assesses the popularity of European clubs, competitions and players online in China.
The digital prizes were reviewed by a specifically selected panel of 10 industry experts in China, spread over agencies, broadcasters, media and consulting firms, with the Premier League topping the charts.
“It is a great honor and a testament to the Premier League and the loyal fan base of our clubs in China to receive this Red Card prize for the second consecutive year,” said Richard Masters, CEO of the Premier League.

“We witnessed their passionate support during last year’s successful Premier League Asia Trophy in Nanjing and Shanghai, which is reflected in the growing popularity of our digital reporting in the country.
“Through our dedicated content team, we have delivered innovative and engaging content on key platforms such as Douyin and Weibo, while the tournament itself also provided a valuable opportunity to offer promotional support for PP Sports, as we have officially launched our temporary employment partnership with them.
“We are determined to develop our digital presence in China and bring the Premier League closer to millions of fans in the country.”
While the Premier League was the top class in China, the number one club online was the Spanish champion Barcelona. The number one player online was Juventus-striker Cristiano Ronaldo.
